DCSC Mini Grand Prix Rules

1. The DeSoto County Scholastic Chess Grand Prix is open to all students of DeSoto County (both school and resident is in DeSoto County). Home School students requires residency only.

2. DeSoto students who play in any regular (G/30 or longer) GP designated tournament shall have the points earned at those tournaments totaled for the purpose of awarding Grand Prix prizes at the end of the school year.

   1. All Grand Prix tournaments shall be limited to no more than six rounds.

   2. In a tournament with any of the division other than the Primary (K-3) is USCF rated, then scores acquired from the USCF rated divisions shall be multiplied by 2 points.

   3. Divisions with fewer rounds than others in the same tournament will have game points scaled up proportionally for Grand Prix points. i.e. in a tournament with 5 rounds being the most for any division, a division with 4 rounds would have game points multiplied by 5/4.

   4. Schools are limited to host one tournament per school year for GP purposes. If an school is planning to run more than one tournament in an school year, the first tournament from that school will be the one designated as Grand Prix Event.

3. Prizes will be awarded as follows:

   1. 1st place overall to the player with the most GP points.

   2. 2nd place overall to the player with the second most GP points.

   3. 3rd place overall to the player with the third most GP points.

   4. Individual Grade level groupings K-3, 4-5 and 6-8, to the player with the most GP points in each group not receiving the overall award.

      1. Students who play tournaments in more than one group, carry their points with them as they move up through the ranks, but at the end of the school year they are to be awarded prizes for the group they played the most tournaments.

      2. If a student plays in an equal number of tournaments in more than one group, that student will compete for prizes in the group in which he/she earned the most points.

      3. If a student has played in an equal number of tournaments in more than one group and has earned an equal number of points in each group, that student will compete in the lower groups.

   5. Team Grade level groupings K-3, 4-5 and 6-8, to the team with the most accumulated total GP points in each group.

4. The tournament directors of these events are responsible for getting the results of their tournaments to DeSoto County Scholastic Chess in a timely manner so that these results may be properly tabulated.

5. Trophies and U.S. Savings Bonds will be awarded for each prize at the end of the Annual MidSouth Summer Chess Festival.

   1. In the event of a tie, two or more players having an equal number of GP points competing for the same overall or group prize.

   2. The player earning the highest number of GP points in the highest group will be awarded the prize.  If the players have equal points and played in the same group through the entire school year, the tie-breaks will be:

      1. the player winning the most events;

      2. the player winning the most group prizes in his/her current group;

      3. the player winning the most group prizes in total;

      4. the player who achieved these points with the fewest games played.

6. Team score shall be the total points accumulated by All students from each school per group.

   1. If any student played in more than one group, the school earn the score in the student's current grade group regardless of which group the student competed for individual prize.

   2. In the event of a tie, two or more school having an equal number of GP points competing for the same group prize.

   3. The school earning the highest number of GP points with the most number of students participants will be awarded the prize. If the school have equal points and have equal number of students, then both/all will be declared co-winners and each receiving equal prizes.
